Fredericksburg, VA

So this past weekend, ET and I went down to Fredericksburg, VA to have a little getaway. Fredericksburg is about an hour and 15 minutes away from DC and is a historic town. I actually expected it to be a little different, but it was still nice to get away from it all.

On Friday night, we got to the hotel around 8pm and then explored the shopping area nearby. Then we went to the Super Walmart and was amazed by how huge it was because it had a grocery section. We decided that it was a good time to “pig out” on cheese, fruit, and crackers. Even though we kind of ate dinner earlier, we were still hungry. Then we relaxed in the hotel for the rest of the night.

A freaky thing happened on Friday night. I was having trouble sleeping in the first place simply because it takes at least a night or so for me to adjust to a new sleeping situation. We accidentally got 2 double beds because there were no more available queen rooms. The phone (which was very loud) rang twice in the middle of the night, and I felt like I was in the middle of a horror movie. I tried praying for a bit but couldn’t shake off this scared feeling so I climbed into bed with ET. Then, later, after he stole all the covers from me, I went back to my own bed and tried to go to sleep. Then, at 6 in the morning, the alarm clock went off and it went off twice because I couldn’t figure out how to turn it off. Then, I was just tired and wasn’t really scared anymore.

Afterwards, we woke up, got breakfast, and then headed out to Old Town Fredericksburg. We went down to the Visitors Center and got some ideas on what to do. We walked leisurely down the “old town” streets after we parked the car. The funny thing was, almost every store was an antique store. ET and I were amazed that they could stay in business. After one of them, we’ve seen pretty much all of them, so we decided to eat some lunch. And we had a good lunch at this organic place called Foode, it was pretty good and not too expensive. Then, afterwards, we went to the Apothecary and Rising Sun Tavern for a tour. It was amusing to see how people treated illnesses and how people lived back in the 1800s.

Then, we had a quick break at a bakery and ET had bought some old-styled cards (with no lamination and no numbers on them) and we tried playing a game with them. I found that it was very hard to hold cards effectively when they are not laminated. Afterwards, we decided to walk over to another historical mansion across the river, but a wall of bugs stopped us and we turned around and drove there instead. The mansion was very big but unfortunately not a lot of it was open to the public. So we decided to walk around for a bit. Then, by this time, it was already around 4:30pm and most of the historic places are closed. We decided to trek around University of Mary Washington for a bit to see what their college campus was like. After finding parking, which took a long time, we walked around in some of the buildings and the campus was mostly empty at the time. Then we grabbed some dinner in a shopping center nearby. Afterwards, it got a little chillier and we went to the Philharmonic Orchestra 40th anniversary concert just to see what it was like. ET apparently wasn’t all that amused so we left after intermission. Then, we drove back to the shopping area near our hotel and checked out the “Funland’ which had a bunch of arcade games and they also had go-karts, mini golf and some rides as well. ET decided he wanted to see how good he was at mini golf, and apparently he was just ok at it. Then, we headed back, relaxed a bit, watched TV and then went to bed.

The next day we were a bit lazy and decided to sleep in for abit. We decided to go to Frontline that afternoon, so we didn’t have to get up early for a church service. We went to Belmont house in the morning and walked around. Then decided to head back to the Tyson’s area to hang out. ET got a haircut and we also ate dinner at Wasabi, which had a rotating sushi thing, the first time he ate at such a restaurant. Then we went to Frontline. Afterwards, we did some grocery shopping for the week and then went home.
